"Ohio Gaited Trailriders"
by Richard Anderson
"...Our first ride of the season will be at a brand new horse camp named 'Lazy
Gait Horse Camp' owned by our friends, Jack and Joyce Cales, just outside Carter, Kentucky and about 45 minutes southwest
of Portsmouth.
They own three ranches all connected together, with 50
miles of trails, and adjacent to 3,000 acres of wilderness, and on a historical trail that was walked by the first white woman
settler, Jenny Wiley. We will be thier first guests and will be dry camping, but they will eventually be able to house
up to 50 riders, with stalls available for horses.
Their spread is only seven miles away from Carter Caves
State Park, and on their property , there are miles of caves to visit, along with lots of wildlife to view. The Indians
called it 'Oligo-nunk' or 'Land of the Caves.' This should be a fun adventure for both us and for them, as they kick
off their new horse camp, with real guests. If you would like to visit this new horse camp, please contact Jack or Joyce
Cales at 606/474-4316. They also raise Saint Bernards for sale and have several at their ranch, so this should be another
jun thing to see...."
